Snellville, “Where Everybody is Proud to be Somebody” is about 35-40 minutes east of downtown Atlanta, estimated population 20,077. It’s a developed suburb of the Atlanta Metropolitian area. This is an example of a community or neighborhood, where its roots extend to the 19th century London. Two old friends Thomas Snell and James Sawyer from London voyaged to the New World in 1874 where they built and started a business together. They called it Snell and Sawyer’s store located in what was called then New London near Stone Mountain. Their store was similar to the one they were employed at in London. The store was so prosperous selling goods that many customers from neighboring towns like Loganville and Lawrenceville were flocking in. The traffic that this store was bringing to the town was the reason the city changed the name to Snellville.
Snellville from its beginnings as a small mill town now has become a more diverse bustling suburb hanging on to its small town charm. With many new home sites being built, commercial additions and a new Mixed- used town center development. Snellville is becoming the new location for the community to live, play, work, learn and shop. The Grove at Towne Center will be the new Snellville downtown offering 250 multi-family Luxury Apartments, 50,000 square feet of restaurant, office, and entertainment space. With a new Elizabeth Williams library for the community to use its incubator educational space.
